Recumbent Bicycle Fairings
Types of Fairings
What Is A Recumbent Bike Fairing?
Fairing is essentially a ‘windshield‘ for a recumbent bike. It has several purposes including improving aerodynamics, protecting against inclement weather and flying wreckage, insects, birds or any other hazards on the highway.
Full Recumbent Bicycle Fairing
Recumbent bicycles are said to be ‘fully faired’ when the bicycle is entirely encased in a fibreglass/carbon fibre shell (or similar lightweight material) and completely encloses the cyclist inside.

Body Stocking
Body Stockings are used by recumbent cyclists to improve their aerodynamics. They are constructed with stretchy ‘spandex’ material that is made into side panels. These side panels then attach to the front fairing and tailbox, or rear fairing of the recumbent bicycle.
Advantages of Using a Recumbent Bicycle Fairing
- The Recumbent Bike Fairing keeps the rider warm and dry which is fantastic especially when touring.
- Can increase the recumbent bicycle’s speed by 5 – 15% once the recumbent is doing over 12 – 13 mph or 19.3 – 20.92 km per hour.
- It doesn’t overheat the cyclist in hot weather.
- Is amazingly aerodynamic.
